Net Carbs Formula
Determining the net carbs is straightforward using the following formula:
\[ \text{Net Carbs} = \text{TC} - \text{F} - \text{SA} \]
- TC: Total Carbs (in grams)
- F: Fiber (in grams)
- SA: Sugar Alcohols (in grams)
To calculate net carbs, subtract the grams of fiber and sugar alcohols from the total grams of carbs.
Example Calculation
If your food has 20 grams of total carbs, 5 grams of fiber, and 3 grams of sugar alcohols, the net carbs would be:
\[ \text{Net Carbs} = 20 - 5 - 3 = 12 \text{ grams} \]
Importance of Net Carbs
Net carbs are a critical metric for those on low-carb diets like Keto, as they indicate the amount of carbs that impact blood sugar levels. Understanding this value helps in managing carbohydrate intake and maintaining dietary goals.
